A
new 12-inch water main insuring an adequate water supply for Springdale
was cause for celebration in August 1959. City leaders who played
a major role in the water line construction project were on hand
when water first gushed through the line at a fire hydrant north
of Springdale High School’s football stadium. From left:
Fred Watson, Mayor Elmer Johnson, city engineer Jimmy Highfill,
Joe Steele, and James Littrell. Steele was chairman of the city
council
water committee; Watson and Littrell were committee members.
Special
thanks to Springdale Water Utilities director Rene Langston for
help in researching this photo.
