The
Waldron, Crudup, and Wade families gathered in front of the family homeplace
in the early 1900s, which was located in Fayetteville at the present-day
site of Harp’s Food Store on Garland Avenue. The cabin is a fine
example of the “dogtrot” style of architecture—a house
with two rooms separated by an open breezeway. The cabin style takes
its name from the breeze-catching quality of the hallway, which attracted
canine--and human--inhabitants of the house looking to escape the summer
heat.
