Trips Bring History to Life
Reading
about history is good, but listening to stories in a pioneer cabin
beside a roaring fire brings history to life. Looking at a picture
of loom is good but actually trying your hand at weaving makes
an impact. Listening to music is good but actually trying to play
spoons or a washtub bass creates a memory.
We provide the opportunity for active learning while telling stories
about real people from real places in the Arkansas Ozarks.
Our goal is to help you integrate teaching Arkansas history
with math, art, science, language arts, social studies, and geography
curriculum frameworks. We offer a unique educational resource
for teachers and students, homeschoolers, scout troops, and other organized
groups at no charge.
Museum
field trips are available on a first-call-first-scheduled basis throughout
the year. Field trips include curriculum-based programs on area history
with a general tour of the exhibit hall and historic buildings. Allow
60 to 90 minutes for a field trip. There is a limit of 60 students
at one time. Field trips and after-school programs may be scheduled
from 10 am to 4 pm, Tuesday through Friday.
