Customers of the Mooney-Barker Drugstore in Pettigrew (Madison County) could buy a refreshing orange julep at the store's soda fountain for a nickel in the early 1900s. An inverted five-gallon bottle of julep was placed on top of this cooler for dispensing a cool, fruity drink.

The julep cooler was donated by Wayne and June Martin. Wayne is the grandson of drugstore owners Arthur P. and Helen Mooney Barker.
