Flood Safety

With the current forecast of approx. 1"-2" of rain expected in the NW Arkansas area, the Springdale Police Department would like to remind citizens to exercise caution in flooded areas. Neighborhoods and areas near the Spring Creek, Brush Creek, and Clear Creek have a heightened possibility of flooding. US Highway 71B, near the underpass, portions of Shady Grove Road, and Pump Station Road, historically flood regularly. Flooding may also be enhanced by the recent ice storm damage which left a large amount of debris near and in several drainage ways. The following is a list of suggested safety tips:

  • Do not walk through flowing water. Just a few inches of flowing water can knock a person down. Use a pole or stick to measure water depth in an area where the water is not flowing.
  • Do not drive through flooded areas or around road barriers. More people drown in their cars than anywhere else during flooding.
  • Stay away from power lines and electrical wires. Electrocution is also a major killer in floods.
  • Report all flooding and hazards to the Springdale Police Department at 751-4542 or dial 9-1-1.
