Community Education

Community Education Programs are primarily delivered by the Fire Prevention Division. These programs are developed based on community needs, analysis of trend behaviors, and established programs that positively impact the community. Fire and life safety enhancement is the primary objective of each program. The following are programs administered and delivered by the Fire Prevention Division:

Citizen Fire Academy

An eight week education program delivered each spring at the Springdale Fire Department. This program is designed to provide the Citizens of Springdale with basic knowledge in areas of fire behavior, fire fighting, fire prevention, fire education, and Emergency Medical Services. This program serves to increase awareness of the Springdale Fire Department to members of the community, while allowing citizens a better understanding of the departments operations. Each week, selected SFD personnel deliver a lecture to the class at Station 1.

Portable Fire Extinguisher Training

A hands on education and training program designed to teach the proper use of portable fire extinguishers. The delivery of the program is either held at Station 1, or at a remote location and includes a lecture, video presentation, and practical live fire extinguishment by participating students.

Fire Prevention Week

A one week education program held during the month of October in conjunction with the NFPA Fire Prevention Week. The program identifies a specific theme each year and focuses fire education delivery within the public and private school systems. Program involves publicity with the media to identify fire safety issues. Delivery occurs through both staff and line personnel. Selected schools receive enhanced delivery of fire safety training using the Springdale Fire Department, Fire Safety House.

Junior Fire Marshal Program

A training program delivered at the beginning of each school year for students in the Springdale Public School System. The program includes a lecture, power point presentation, detailed description of the duties of Junior Fire Marshal's, and closes with a lunch provided by the Springdale Fire Department. Junior Fire Marshal's from each school facility are selected by the Principal. The delivery of the program is coordinated through personnel from the Springdale Public Schools, Administration Division.

Win-A-Ride Program

An education program delivered during the month of November each year. The program includes a free ride to school in a fire truck to one student from each elementary school in the City of Springdale. The student is selected by the school principal based on the student who displays exceptional fire safety awareness during fire prevention week activities.

Fire Safety House

An education program that includes the delivery of fire safety education to all members of the community with the aid of the mobile fire safety house. The house is also utilized during seasonal events such as Fire Prevention Week, Feather Fest, Rodeo of the Ozarks, Cinco de Mayo, etc.

Smoke Alarm Program

The program is designed to ensure that every residence in the City of Springdale has an operating smoke alarm. Program includes the free installation of smoke alarms, checks for existing smoke alarms, and free battery replacement.
