1.         Time
          The time of day in which most DWI crashes occurred was between 1:00 a.m. – 1:59 a.m., which accounted for 17 total DWI crashes.  This was followed by 15 DWI crashes that occurred between both 7:00 p.m. – 7:59 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. – 9:59 p.m.  The fourth busiest hour for DWI crashes was 10:00 p.m. – 10:59 p.m., which accounted for 14 DWI crashes.

D.        By Type of Motor Vehicle Collision
          Springdale had a total of 2,954 traffic accidents in 2006, which was up from 2,897 traffic accidents in 2005.  This includes all traffic accidents, even those that occurred on private property.  Of these 2,954, 151 involved DWI related crashes, which is approximately 5% of the total amount of accidents.  The 5% total of total accidents that DWI drivers accounted for is up from 4.45% in 2005.

E.         Fatality Crashes
           
Springdale had five fatality crashes in 2006, with five people killed in the fatality crashes.  Two of the five fatality crashes involved DWI drivers, which means a DWI driver was involved in 40% of the total fatality accidents that occurred in Springdale in 2006.
F.         Personal Injury Crashes

          Springdale had a total of 47 personal injury crashes involving DWI drivers in 2006.  This is up from 40 crashes in 2005.  A total of 68 people were injured in the 47 personal injury crashes in 2006.  The number of people injured was also up from 57 persons who were injured in 2005.

G.        Property Damage Crashes
           
There were a total of 102 property damage crashes in Springdale in 2006, which involved a DWI driver.  In 2005, there were 87 property damage crashes involving DWI drivers, so DWI related property damage crashes are also up.

I.         Leaving the Scene of an Accident
          Fifty-five drunk drivers, which represents approximately 36% of the total amount of drunk drivers involved in DWI crashes, left the scene of the crash in violation of Arkansas law.  This statistic is up from 2004, when only 19% of the DWI drivers left the scene of the crash, and also up from 2005, when 31% of the DWI drivers left the scene.

 J.        Race/Gender of DWI Offenders in Crashes
           
The chart on the next page sets out the total number of persons arrested for DWI who were involved in DWI crashes in 2006 by race/gender, with the percentage this race/gender group makes up of the total.  There were 152 DWI drivers in 151 DWI crashes, as in one crash both drivers were DWI.

L.         Underage Drivers in DWI Crashes
           
There were a total of 12 underage DWI drivers in DWI crashes in Springdale, Arkansas in 2006.  This means that in approximately 8% of DWI crashes in Springdale in 2006, an underage DWI driver was involved.
M.        Location of DWI crashes
          A total of 60 out of the 151 DWI crashes occurred on a State or U.S. Highway.  This represents approximately 40% of the total DWI crashes, which is the same percentage as 2004 and 2005.  The chart on the following page sets out the number of the 60 DWI highway crashes by where they occurred.

          The DWI crashes that occurred on city streets, occurred throughout the City of Springdale.  The highest locations were Emma Avenue, with five, South Powell, Turner Street, and Backus Street with four, and Caudle Avenue and Adrian Street with three.
N.        Estimate of Property Damage of DWI Crashes in 2006
           
Based on an analysis of 144 DWI crashes in which property damage was estimated on the report, each DWI crash cost approximately $5,810.00 in property damage.  This seems low, but 81 (53.64%) out of the total 151 DWI crashes involved only one vehicle hitting a fixed object.  With the average per accident ($5,810.00), it is estimated that DWI crashes cost $877,310.00 in property damages in Springdale, Arkansas in 2006.
O.        Other Offenses Committed by Persons Arrested in DWI Crashes
1.         Driver’s License Violations

           
Sixteen persons arrested for DWI who were involved in motor vehicle crashes had a suspended or revoked driver’s license at the time of the crash.  Forty-five persons arrested for DWI who were involved in crashes did not have a driver’s license at all.  Taken together, there is approximately a 40% chance that a DWI driver involved in a crash in Springdale, Arkansas will either have a suspended driver’s license or no driver’s license.
2.         No Insurance
          Forty persons arrested for DWI who had crashes did not have motor vehicle insurance.  This is approximately 26% of the drunk drivers involved in crashes in Springdale in 2006.
3.         No Seatbelt
           
There was only one drunk driver involved in a crash that did not have his seatbelt on.  This represents less than 1% of the total drunk drivers involved in traffic crashes.
