The City of Springdale is dedicated to encouraging PRIDE in home ownership.  We have ordinances that can help preserve your property value.

All violations received by the Code Enforcement Division will be answered promptly. For all ordinance violation issues dial Ext #206.

Any time our office cannot be reached due to a high volume of phone calls, and during non-work hours, weekends and holidays, violations and complaints can be placed with our office answering machine. Office staff monitors incoming calls to our answering machine and respond efficiently.

Code Enforcement is dedicated to eradicating unsightly and unsanitary conditions.

FAQ

Can I park my vehicle anywhere on my property?

 

No. Parking any motor vehicle on an unpaved area is prohibited.  Exceptions include one parking space parallel to the paved driveway.  The size of such a designated parking space should not exceed 9' x 19'.  Access to such designated parking space shall be by way of the property's driveway, and must be maintained with adequate grasses or other plants and/or  landscaping materials to keep the area from becoming rutted, muddy and/or soil from being blown or washed away and is identified as a violation of this provision.  For the complete ordinance regarding parking restrictions in residential zoned properties, refer to section 114-57 of the Springdale City Ordinances.

Can I store an inoperative vehicle anywhere on my property?

No. If the vehicle is inoperative or does not have current vehicle licenses it cannot be stored anywhere on the property. The only way it can be if it is stored inside a garage.

Can I complain if my neighbor refuses to mow his grass?

Yes.  We have ordinances that cover overgrown yards, garbage/rubbish, inoperative vehicles, or other unsightly or unsanitary things.

Can I park my motor home in my front yard?

No.  You cannot park in your front yard; however you can park it on the paved portion of your driveway, no closer than ten feet from the street curb.

Can I build a storage building in my back yard without a building permit?

Yes, you can as long as it is not over 200 square feet and is portable.  If it is larger than 200 square feet you must obtain a building permit and build within set backs.

Can I build a fence in my front yard, past the front edge of my house?

You can only build a fence in the front yard, not over 36 inches high and cannot be within the street right-of-way. We ask that if you are going to build a fence in the front yard, that you call one of our Code Enforcement Officers and have them come to your location to measure the right-of-way before you build your fence.

Is there anything that can be done about stagnant water?

Yes.  Under Springdale City Ordinance 42-77, the property owner can be ordered to "eliminate, fill up, or remove stagnant pools of water".

I am putting a swimming pool in my back yard. Do I have to put up a fence around it?

Yes, the ordinance says that you are required to have a fence at least 48 inches high, with a self latching gate. Please, before putting in a swimming pool, check with the Buildings Inspection Department to get the complete requirements for swimming pools.

My neighbor has chickens. Is that allowed?

Only in certain zones, any questions pertaining to animals should be directed to the Animal Control Division of the Springdale Police Department (479) 750-8517.

If I had my house rewired for the electrical service, do I call Code Enforcement to have it inspected?

No.  You would need to call the Buildings Inspection Department; they deal with all construction questions or inspections.

Am I required to have trash service?

Yes. All residents and businesses of the city which generate less than two cubic yards of solid waste per week shall use the residential service contracted by the city.

Can I run a business from my home?

Under certain, very limited circumstances you can run a business from you home. Please check with the planning office for details, (479) 750-8550.
